Julia BRIAND (born WHALEN)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Julia Briand, who left us peacefully on November 21, 2025, in Laval, Quebec, at the age of 86.
Julia is now reunited with her beloved husband, Richard ''Dick'' Briand, of Douglastown, Quebec. She leaves to mourn her sons Terrance (Nathalie), Allan, and Kevin (Birute), as well as her cherished grandsons Richard, William, and Faolain. Born in Wakeham, Quebec, into a large and loving family of 14 children, she is also survived by her dear brother Orley of Edmonton. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, by her many nieces and nephews, and by an extraordinary circle of lifelong friends.
From her humble Gaspesian roots to her move to Montréal as a teenager, through her many treasured years on Montréal's South Shore, and finally her months in Laval, Julia carried with her an unwavering optimism and a gentle warmth. Whether at family gatherings, at the card table with friends, serving customers with care at the restaurant where she worked, or simply greeting someone she met by chance, Julia had a remarkable way of making every person feel seen and appreciated.
A celebration of Julia's life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Yves Légaré Funeral Complex, 1350 Autoroute Chomedey (A-13 South), Laval, Quebec, H7X 3W9.
Visitation in the presence of her urn will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., followed by a chapel service from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Her ashes will be laid to rest at a later date in Saint-Patrick's Cemetery in Douglastown, beside her beloved husband.
In honour of Julia's kindness and generosity, the family invites you to make a donation to a cancer research foundation or a palliative care organization of your choice.

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Julia Briand, survenu paisiblement le 21 novembre 2025 à Laval, Québec, à l'âge de 86 ans.
Elle rejoint son époux bien-aimé, feu Richard ''Dick'' Briand, de Douglastown, Québec. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses fils Terrance (Nathalie), Allan et Kevin (Birute), ainsi que ses précieux petits-fils Richard, William et Faolain. Née à Wakeham, Québec, au sein d'une grande famille de 14 enfants, elle laisse également dans le deuil son cher frère Orley, d'Edmonton, Alberta. Ses belles-soeurs, son beau-frère, ses nombreux neveux et nièces, ainsi qu'un cercle exceptionnel d'amis de longue date garderont d'elle un souvenir chaleureux et impérissable.
De ses modestes débuts en Gaspésie à son arrivée à Montréal à l'adolescence, en passant par ses nombreuses années chéries sur la Rive-Sud de Montréal puis ses derniers mois à Laval, Julia a toujours su transmettre son optimisme et sa douceur. Que ce soit lors de rassemblements familiaux, autour d une partie de cartes entre amis, en servant les clients du restaurant où elle travaillait ou simplement dans les rencontres du quotidien, elle possédait ce don rare de faire sentir à chacun qu'il comptait.
La vie de Julia sera célébrée le samedi 6 décembre 2025 au complexe funéraire Yves Légaré, 1350, autoroute Chomedey (A-13 sud), Laval, Québec, H7X 3W9.
La famille recevra les condoléances en présence de l'urne de 13 h à 16 h, suivies d'une cérémonie en chapelle à 16 h.
Ses cendres seront inhumées ultérieurement au cimetière Saint-Patrick de Douglastown, auprès de son époux bien-aimé.
En hommage à la générosité et à la bienveillance de Julia, vous êtes invités à faire un don à une fondation de recherche sur le cancer ou à un organisme de soins palliatifs de votre choix.
