1934 - 2026
Giovanni Johnny Mazza, a master tailor and pillar of his family, passed away on April 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Amato, Italy, Giovanni immigrated to Canada alone at 16, surviving a spirited voyage across the Atlantic to build a better life for his family in Montreal.
A fixture of the Plateau community for over 40 years, Johnny owned and operated his iconic tailor shop on the corner of Mount Royal and Des Érables. He was a man of immense skill and even greater kindness-a gentle soul who worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, always putting the needs of his family first.
He was the devoted husband of the late Carmen Lavoie and a dedicated father to Giovanni Junior (Anna) and Gina (Paolo). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren-Natashia, Marco (Tania), Olivia (Nicolas), Sarah (Brian), and Luca and his great-grandson, Vincenzo. He leaves to mourn his siblings Pasquale (the late Liliane), Angelina (Michael), and Antonetta (Paul). He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will mourn his loss.
Johnny will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his stubborn independence, and a heart that was truly one of a kind. Johnny left a legacy of strong family surroundings, generosity, and a love of life that will live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, May 10, 2026 from 2 pm to 5 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm, and on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10 am to 11:30 am at Yves Légaré Funeral Home : 1350 Autoroute 13, Laval, QC H7X 3W9.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11 at 11:30 am in the chapel of the complex.
