Genuina
Mazzonna
( née
Canale)
1930 - 2026
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Genuina Mazzonna, on September 10, 2026, at the age of 95.
Devoted wife of the late Eliseo Mazzonna for 68 years, treasured mother of Mario (Suzanne), Anna (Eric) and Lora (Mike), cherished nonna of Daniel (Billie), Elisa (Raphaël), Julia and Alexandre and proud great-grandmother of Milan and Lucca. She was predeceased by siblings Elvira (Vettese) and Pasquale Canale.
Born in Cervaro, Italy, in 1930, with World War II on her doorstep as a young child, Genuina grew into a strong and resilient woman. She overcame immigration challenges, language barriers and early beginnings in Goose Village, to raise a strong, stable family on Montreal's south shore.
Genuina was highly industrious, known for being a talented seamstress, who could sew any piece of clothing for herself and family, and an outstanding cook whose prized gnocchi was always a favourite which no one could quite replicate.
In retirement, she relished winters in Naples, Florida, where she loved spending time at the beach and cooking fish dinners - whenever Eliseo was fortunate to catch anything at the pier.
Our hearts are heavy, yet they are also filled with gratitude for the countless sacrifices she made and for the traditions, values and enduring memories she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held at Yves Légaré Funeral Complexes, 2750 Marie-Victorin Blvd., Longueuil, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will follow at the same location from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm, followed by entombment at 12:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in memory of Genuina.
