It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved Earl, who passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on July 5th, 2023, one week before his 83rd birthday.
Beloved husband for 46 years of Lynne, cherished father of Jessica (Andy) and Christopher (Scarlett), devoted grandfather of Sam.
He will be deeply missed by his brothers Eddy (Diane), Bryan (Sandie), Hugh (Gisele) and his sister Cathy, as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Earl started his teaching career at the spry age of 19, and over the span of 40 years, did his best to enlighten countless students. Laval Catholic High School held a special place in his heart. In his over two decades there as a physical education instructor he coached women’s basketball, teamed up with many lifelong friends, and kicked off his relationship with Lynne. He ended his career at Our Lady of Peace, teaching 3rd & 4th grade with great joy for 12 years. Always the sportsman, Earl had a passion for football and hockey, and his skates graced the ice until his 80th year.
He was a friend to many, and always ready with a cold beer and a chaser of sharp wit. Cheers to Earl the Pearl !
The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, July 12th, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Yves Légaré funeral home in Laval.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassion and amazing care.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Condolences to the family
My deepest condoleances to the McDonald family. Mr. Mcdonald was my teacher years ago at Laval Catholic. He was a sweet and gentle soul. He will be surely missed from his loved ones
I first met Earl when his daughter, Jessica, ‘volunteered’ him to be our Guinea pig for our alginate molding class at Espace Verre. Being bald, retired & available, he was a perfect candidate. He was so patient, smiling and laughing all the way as we were pouring goo onto his head. I spoke to him a few more times through the years, during his famous summer BBQs. He once again struck me as a generous, smiling person. Genuinely interested in what you were talking about and so kind to my shy kids. He will be missed by more than just family and friends. He will be missed by all who have met him. Truly one of a kind. My sincerest sympathies,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Earl's passing. While he will be remembered for many good qualities,I will always cherish our relationship as colleagues teamates and our shared love of good whisky and jazz. So Lynn,Jessica and Chris, please accept my deepest condolences.
My deepest condolences to you all. Many years ago, I was a student of Mr. MacDonald and what a wonderful teacher he was. This is very sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Marie-Claude Breton
It is with a heavy heart that I wrote to you today. Mr.MacDonald was my true hero. He opened his gym doors to me everytime I needed. He was an amazing teacher, coach and mentor. Today, I am proud to say that I am a physical education teacher because of him. As he, my gym doors are always opened for those who need. There has not been one moment in my career that I haven’t thanked him for shaping the teacher I am today. Thank you Mr.MacDonald… I wish I could have told you this in person. Love and hugs to your family and friends xoxo Nathalie Breton 1987- 88 graduate.
Sorry I can't attend, but I send you, Lynne and family, my deepest sympathies ! Earl will be missed ! Take care.....Tony Sciaraffa
Dear Lynne & family, Rene & I were so sorry to hear about Earl’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May fond memories of happier times help you all through this difficult time. Rene & Janice
Sincerest condolences from my brother Patrick St. James and myself. We were both appreciative of Mr. MacDonald’s passion for teaching, coaching and making a positive and memorable difference in his students’ lives. Ironically both Pat and I became teachers and coached throughout our careers. Positive teachers and coaches make the world a better place. ☀️
Lynne, Merina and I are so sorry to hear of Earls passing. My 5thgrade teacher, hockey coach and friend. So much apart of my youth. Then to be reunited on the football field as adults. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. We will remember Earl always. Barney and Merina Rooney
Dear Lynne and family, Hope your sadness is lessened by all your loving memories. Earl seemed such a fine man. Please accept our most sincere sympathy. Eleanor and Sarah.
Dear Lynne - George and I are so very sorry to hear about Earl's death. We extend our deepest condolences to you, Jessica, Christopher, and the entire Macdonald and Pitts families. Claudia
We’re very sorry for your loss and may all the wonderful memories you have sustain during this difficult time. May you be spared from any further sorrows. Monica and Leon Ejdelman
Bon courage!
