Tetyana (Katherine) died at the CHSLD Polonais Marie-Curie-Sklodowska, on January 2nd. She was preceded by her husband, Bolesław, and her grandson, Matthew. She is survived by her son, Mark (Natalia), her granddaughter, Tanya (Bogdan), and her great-granddaughter, Taya.
She was born in Vychilky (now, Honcharivka), Ternopils’ka Obast, in Ukraine. In 1940, she was taken to Germany where, after the war, she met, and married Bolesław Bednarczyk. They moved to the U.K., where their son was born, and eventually, in 1951, the family emigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal.
Katherine loved her Church, her homeland, her family, her Saturday dinners for family and friends, playing cards, making varenyky for her grandchildren and, when she could no longer be as active as she liked, sitting on her balcony, feeding a red-winged blackbird that she had befriended, and watching the world go by.
She shall be missed by all who knew her. Vichnaya Pam’yat.
Heartfelt thanks to the CHSLD Polonais, and especially to the personnel on the first floor, for their kindness, their patience, and their compassionate care.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 12, from 11:00 to 12:00, at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1795 Grand Trunk, Montreal, H3K 1L9, followed by the Funeral Rites, and interment at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, would be greatly appreciated. https://www.cufoundation.ca/
