In Loving Memory of Smith Codio
Smith Codio, 49, of Sammamish, Washington, and Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, passed away on August 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Smith will be remembered for many things, but perhaps most of all for the way his presence filled a room. People often heard Smith before they saw him. His unmistakable laugh carried, his smile was generous, and his energy was contagious. When Smith arrived, people knew it.
Nothing made Smith prouder than being a father to his son, Alexander Moore Codio. He was immensely proud of Alexander and of the man he was becoming. Alexander held a profound and permanent place in his father's heart.
Smith believed in living fully and with no regrets. He loved music and dancing, traveling, spending time with friends, and going to concerts and the theatre with his wife, Michelle Pruitt. He loved experiences, adventure, and simply having a good time. And for someone with such a serious passion for technology, he had one decidedly less serious guilty pleasure: reality television.
A software engineer at Microsoft, Smith was endlessly curious about technology and what could be built with it. That curiosity extended far beyond his work. He loved home automation, artificial intelligence, automobiles, manufacturing, and the possibilities that emerged when technology, creativity, and engineering came together. He wanted to understand how things worked, how they could work better, and what might be possible next.
Smith was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Rose Mompoint, and his father, Jacques Francois Rubin Codio.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Pruitt; his beloved son, Alexander Moore Codio; his brother, Carl Henri Codio; his sisters, Sherley Codio, Carene S. Codio, and Frandeline Codio; his sister-in-law, Gina Desauguste; his brothers-in-law, Karl Adams Saint-Louis and Sem Fatal; his stepmother, Marie Francoise O. Codio; his stepbrother, Jean Robert Lamour; and his many cherished nieces, nephews, godchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Smith loved and was deeply loved by the Codio, Appolon, Gabriel, Desroches, Casimir, Mussotte, Obas, Desravine, Denis, Saint-Louis, Fatal, Jn Baptiste, Pierre, Moore, Sherlock, Wullenweber, Fina, O'Steen, Brophy, and Kerr families, along with the many others who were part of the extraordinary family and community that surrounded him.
Smith also shared an enduring bond with Angela Michelle Moore, his first wife and Alexander's mother, who remained an important part of his life.
Beyond his family, Smith leaves behind an extraordinary circle of friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his friendship, laughter, generosity, and unmistakable presence.
Smith will be remembered in music and laughter, in friendships and adventures, in concerts and travels, in the technology he loved, and in the stories people will continue to tell about him. Most of all, he will be remembered for the feeling that came with his presence.
You heard the laugh. You saw the smile. And somehow, the room became brighter.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Smith's memory to consider making a donation to one of the following organizations:
T Cell Leukemia Lymphoma Foundation: https://www.tcllfoundation.org
