It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and heartbreaking passing of our beloved mom and grandmother (Babi) Ryta Kozielec on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Ottawa ON, at the age of 89. She leaves behind her treasured children Mark and Loretta (Erick), her 3 most cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Rebeka, and Samantha, her siblings Dolores, Stella and Henry, and many other loving relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, Tomasz, her daughter, Yolanta, her mom, Helena, and her father, Edmund.
Our beloved mom lived a life defined by love and devotion-for her family, for God, and for her Polish Catholic community. Always generous with her time, her heart, and her spirit, she offered support, encouragement, and kindness to everyone around her.
Mom was the heart of our home, showing her love in everyday ways-through her cooking, her caring, her compassion, always encouraging, and quietly ensuring everyone felt valued and supported. Family was her greatest joy, and she gave of herself selflessly.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. It provided comfort, meaning, and community. For 25 years, she joyfully sang in the Polish choir, sharing her love of music and devotion to God. She also shared a love of dancing with dad, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed hosting and getting together with family and friends. Her gentle spirit and generous heart touched everyone around her.
We are forever grateful for her love and the example she set. She leaves a lasting legacy of warmth, service, compassion, care, generosity, and devotion that will stay with us always. Her treasured Polish family recipe book -filled with recipes passed down through generations -will continue to keep traditions alive and share the joy she found in cooking.
Anyone lucky enough to have met Mom felt the warmth of her spirit and the kindness she so generously shared.
We love you mom! We love you BABI! You will be deeply missed!

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Montreal, 1660 Centre St. The family will receive condolences beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow the mass.
A private interment of ashes ceremony will be held in Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated (https://foundation.ottawaheart.ca/giving-options/).
