Matthew Lamarre
Sept. 29, 1966 - April 21, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the tragic and sudden death of Matthew Lamarre in Chateauguay on April 21, 2025, who was struck down by a vehicle accident. His family and the community are shaken and left to mourn his untimely death.
Matthew was the son of Mary and Robert (Bob) Lamarre (predeceased 2013) and brother to Trina, Zennie (predeceased 2024), Cory, and Rodney (predeceased 2023).
Matthew was intelligent, independent, self-reliant, and resilient. He grew up in Chateauguay and graduated from Howard S. Billings High School. He played hockey and football as a youth. Matthew enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He liked his solitude, going for long walks, sitting by the Chateauguay River, cooking, watching movies, and cheering for the Canadiens. As a young adult, he developed a mental illness, which became his lifelong challenge to manage. His parents supported him as much as he would allow, and with the help of La Maison Sous les Arbres, mental health services.
Life circumstances and a lack of subsidized housing left Matthew living on the streets during the last several years. However, he touched many souls in Chateauguay with his friendly smile and warm heart. He demonstrated the courage to be himself, a beautiful spirit finding his way in the world. His family is eternally grateful for the friendship of people who accepted Matthew with kindness and compassion and helped him. They also warmly thank the Chateauguay Community Police for their outreach efforts to offer Matthew services. Matthew lived with dignity on his own terms and was an inspiration to all who knew him that your life circumstance does not determine who you are , but how you treat others. Rest in peace Matthew, you will live forever in our hearts.
Visitation and celebration of Matthew will be held on June 21, 2025, from 1-4pm at Yves Legare Funeral Complex, 123 Bd Maple, in Chateauguay.
