(Lastewka) Samborsky
1922 - 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lastewka Samborsky on September 27th, 2026 in her 105th year. Beloved wife of the late Peter Samborsky, mother of the late Peter Jr (Dianne also deceased), Paul (Joy), and Bill (Diane). Cherished grandmother of the late Steven, Jill, Dennis, Geoffrey (Stephanie), Patrick (Cristina), Kimberly (Kyle), and Laura. Proud great-grandmother of Jessie, Hayleigh, Nolan, Kevin, Alessandro, Kelsey, and Dominic. Great-great grandmother of Maylia and Arthur. She also leaves to mourn her brother Walter (Carol) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Ukraine, she arrived in Canada at the tender age of seven. She embraced her new country and was a proud Canadian. After schooling in two new languages, she met her husband and lived in a house they built together to raise their three boys. Mary was a woman of many talents. She was president of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League at St-Michael's Church, delegate of the Liberal Party of Canada, active member and organizer at St-Andrij the Apostle Church. Furthermore, she was a prolific painter, producing over 200 paintings and was a seamstress into her 90s creating wedding dresses, suits, and ball gowns. Mary would never sit still and would never miss an opportunity to help her family by feeding them, sewing for them, driving them, or taking care of grandchildren.
We will miss her greatly but her spirit will live on in her family and all the people that had the good fortune to meet her.
Visitation at Complexe funéraire Yves Légaré, 14370 boul. Pierrefonds, H9H 4R7 on Thursday, October 8th from 2 pm until 9 pm with Panachyda (prayers) at 7:15 pm. A funeral mass and burial will follow on Friday at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's name may be made to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (www.cufoundation.ca).
