At LaSalle, on January 24, 2026, at the age of 92, Mrs. Maria De Santis (née Casanova) passed away peacefully. She has gone to join her beloved husband, Domenico De Santis, whom she carried in her heart throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Leonardo (Anna), Filomena (Costantino), Antonio (Pauline), Teresa (Nicola), Giovanna (Gino), Gino, Michele, as well as by her brothers-in-law Cesare and Domenico.
Maria leaves to mourn her children Tony (Sophie) and Rita (Jean-Marcel); her grandsons Charles-Albert (Tanya), Jean-Aymeri (Tiffany) and Vincent-Adrien (Jessica); her great-grandchildren; her sisters Nadia and Lucia; and her sisters-in-law Diane and Mariangela. She will also be deeply missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, whose presence and affection she cherished.
Maria was a remarkably independent woman for her time. She rode a motorcycle through the mountains of Palmoli and later drove confidently through the streets of Montreal. Tall, elegant and striking, she had a style entirely her own.
Family and friends will be received on February 5, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on February 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the Yves Légaré Funeral Complex - LaSalle, located at 7200 Newman Boulevard, LaSalle, Québec H8N 1X2.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Madre dei Cristiani Church, located at 7935 Lefebvre Street, LaSalle, Québec H8N 2A9.
The cemetery service will take place later that day at 1:30 p.m. at Rideau Memorial Garden, 4239 des Sources Boulevard, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Québec H9B 2A6.
The family wishes to express its deep and heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the CHSLD Hôpital de LaSalle for their tenderness, kindness and compassionate care extended to Maria until her final moments.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to the Hôpital de LaSalle Foundation, which would be greatly appreciated in memory of Maria De Santis (née Casanova).
