It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph Farrugia, on January 1, 2026, at the age of 105.

Born in Malta in 1920, Joseph Farrugia lived a long and meaningful life defined by resilience, hard work, and quiet integrity. Growing up during a challenging time and coming of age through the hardships of the Second World War, he developed the endurance and steadfast attitude that would guide him throughout his life.

At the age of 24, he ventured to London, England, where he pursued his craft as a tailor, working at the House of Christian Dior. His dedication to his trade and attention to detail reflected the pride he took in his work and later would be reflected in the pride he took in his family. In 1952, he left London for Montreal, Canada, where he continued his tailoring career and began building the life and family he cherished.

He was devoted to his beloved wife, Kaliopi (predeceased), and a proud father to his children, Despina (Matthew) and Lawrence (Athena). He was also a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Nicolas (Jessica), Kaliopi (Marlo), Eleni (Joseph), Joseph and Zoe¸ and a cherished great-grandfather to his great-grandchildren, Leandro, Leanna, Adriano and Mia, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Family was always at the heart of his life, and he found his greatest happiness in their presence.

Joseph Farrugia passed away peacefully just shy of his 106th birthday, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered as a kind and simple man, whose strength was matched by his humility. When reflecting on his life, he would often say, “ I did it my way ”; a phrase that perfectly captured his independence, perseverance, and quiet pride.

He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, craftsmanship, and love that will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

His family will miss him immensely.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 11:00 am at Ste-Dorothée Church,655 rue Principal , and thence, to the Ste-Dorothée Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at St-Mary's Hospital for their wonderful support and care.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St-Mary’s Hospital would be appreciated.
