Ihor
Shnuriwsky
1944 - 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ihor on April 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ihor was born on July 11, 1944, in Hlibiw, Ukraine, and came to Canada at the age of four.
He will be deeply missed by Genia, his loving wife of 58 years, his children Andrew (Natalka), Mark (Larysa), and Adrianna (Andrew), and his cherished grandchildren Zachary, Adrian, Danya, Noah, and Alyssia. He is also survived by his sister Helena, her children Kristina and Paul, as well as many extended family members in Canada and Ukraine.
A man of few words but deep thought, Ihor had a profound love for his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He had a lifelong passion for photography, nature, birds, and mushroom foraging. His extensive library on these subjects was kept at his beloved cottage, Werchovyna, a place that brought him great joy. He also enjoyed listening to classical and country music.
Ihor began the cherished Father & Son annual fishing trips when his children were young, and later shared this special tradition with his grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. M. Diioro, the oncology nursing staff at Lakeshore General Hospital, Dr. Chen, and the nursing staff at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence for their compassionate care and support.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Panachyda at 7:00 p.m., at Yves Légaré Funeral Home, 14370 Boul. Pierrefonds, Pierrefonds.
The funeral service will take place at the chapel of the complex at Yves Légaré Funeral Home on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence or to a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, Ihor.
God is welcoming you into His arms.
Vichnaya Pamyat.
