Joseph Belmontes

1960-2021
It’s with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Belmontes on 14 April 2021, just 16 days shy of his 61st birthday.  Joe is survived by the love of his life and his soulmate, Teresa Romano, his two sons who he adored more than life itself, Matthew (Brittany) and Jordan (Ashley), his step-son who he loved as his own, Johnny, his grandchildren who brought him such pride and joy, Harrison and Benjamin (and little baby soon to arrive), his adoring parents who gave him his strength and huge heart, Marva and Laurence, his siblings to whom he was the best big brother, Mary (Bill), Dereck (Christine) and Brent (Manuela), his nephews and nieces who were so special to him, Brandon (Melissa), Brianna (Ivan), Kyle, Jessica, Jacob, Adriano and Vivianna, his mother and father in-law who loved him dearly, Elvio and Esterina, his brother-in-law Egidio (Gloria)and John (Lucia), his nieces Kayla (Steven), Michelle, Mya and nephew Gabriel and friends who all helped him become the wonderful man he was.

Joseph was born in Trinidad on 30 April 1960 and came to Canada in November 1970.  He grew up in Downsview, North York and attended Northview Heights Secondary School.  Joe worked the majority of his career in the transport industry as an Operations Manager starting out at CP Transport and moving to Concord Transport in 1995, before retiring in June of 2020.

He was overjoyed with the birth of his sons.  Joe loved spending time with his boys while they played outside, had water gun fights, cooked and went fishing.  They adored their fishing trips together and Matthew has begun to appreciate this tradition with his own kids.

Joe met the love of his life, whilst Teresa was working for Concord Transport, out of their Montreal office.  They began their life together in 2004 when they purchased a house together in Newmarket, Ontario.  We’ve never seen Joe happier.  He shared with her his love of cooking (especially BBQ), coffee, his kids and grandchildren, and if you combined all of that into a social gathering, he was in his element.  Even though Teresa was from Montreal, and Joe was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he was happy to overlook this minor detail J.

In his younger years one of Joe’s hobbies was driving.  He would spend hours driving around Southern Ontario – he knew it like the back of his hand.   There weren’t many people aware of this peculiar wealth of knowledge until somebody would bring up in conversation that they would be driving somewhere, and Joe would describe the best route to take to avoid the traffic!  Sure enough, he became the go-to driving resource for his friends.  A good skill to have in his line of business.

Joe always had the tunes playing whilst he was on his drives.  Joe’s taste in music was varied, eclectic.  He would blast out the rap beats of The Fat Boys from his Camaro Z28, or Phil Collins, Classic Rock, Instrumental, Jazz…he loved it all…except for Country music.  He drew the line there.

Teresa finally managed to convert his love of travel from local to international.  Although he had enjoyed his earlier trips to Trinidad and other parts of the Caribbean, it was with Teresa that he visited his brother in Dubai and fell in love with the international city, so much so that he returned two years later with Johnny in tow.  He also enjoyed venturing through Teresa’s motherland of Italy.

Joe was a kind soul who held his family and friends close to his heart.  He will be remembered for his gentle smile, big heart and infectious laugh; for bringing people together and making them feel comfortable; for that cigarette that was always hanging from his lip.  He was always on his last pack of cigarettes, or so he claimed since he was 20!

We love you, Joseph, for all that you are and all that you were.  All of your wonderful idiosyncrasies simply complemented the man you were.  You were all we wanted and now we must say goodbye.  We miss you terribly and look forward to the day when all of your loved ones can come together to properly celebrate your life.

Due to the current pandemic restrictions, a private funeral service will be held for the immediate family only. A celebration of life ceremony will be held virtually on Monday April 19th, 2021 at 1:00 pm.  To view the live ceremony please CLICK HERE, the link will be available 5 minutes before ceremony.

All my sympathies, and ,despite the pain and the emptiness, be courageous, because our Lord Jesus will eliminate our last enemy "death" 1 Corinthians 15:26 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Revelation 21 Sincere condolences

» Bon courage!
