Waguih Elias Tabet

Waguih Elias Tabet

Waguih wasn’t a tall man, but he was a giant in every other way. His unique name, charismatic personality, sharp wit and wicked sense of humour made him unforgettable to everyone who crossed his path.

Waguih was an educator, devoted family man, great friend, lover of sports and politics and one heck of a poker player. On October 16th, 2020 he left our side but not our hearts after celebrating his 80th birthday just two days earlier. In his final moments, he was surrounded by love and hugs from his three “girls”, who held his hand until his last breath.

Born in Egypt in 1940, Waguih arrived in Canada in 1964 and was so proud to become a Canadian citizen. Following careers in the airlines and in banking, where he met Nicole, the love of his life, he earned his Master’s degree from McGill University and spent over 35 years as an inspiring teacher, principal, basketball coach and referee.

Waguih is predeceased by his parents Elias and Hend, as well as his sister Elise and nephew Hany. He will be deeply missed by Nicole, his beloved wife of 51 years, his loving daughters Melanie (Brian) and Tania (Frank), his cherished grandchildren Danica, Noah and Nicholas, his big brother George, several dear nieces and nephews, and countless wonderful friends and colleagues.

The family will receive condolences on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 11 am to 3 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm at Complex Yves Légaré, 7200 Newman, LaSalle.  Following the viewing, there will a small service held in the chapel at 7:00 pm.

The service will also be streamed live and the link will be available on Yves Légaré Website. To watch the live broadcast please click here.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Jewish General Hospital for their wonderful support and care.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

During these difficult covid times, please remember something dad always said. You’ll never be bored or lonely if you have a good book.
